Walk above the dam, drive through the town that built it

This guided tour from Las Vegas takes you to the Hoover Dam via the Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, where you walk a pedestrian overlook 900 feet above the Colorado River, then drive through Boulder City Historic District to see the preserved buildings and homes from the 1930s dam construction era. The tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off, an air-conditioned vehicle, WiFi on board, and a complimentary bottle of water; a live English-speaking guide leads the group through both stops.

Step-by-step itinerary

Hoover Dam and Boulder City Tour

  • Walk Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Bridge
  • Take pictures of Hoover Dam statues
  • Drive through historic Boulder City
  • Visit Hoover Dam Museum and shops
  • Photo stop at Arizona side of dam

The Experience

The tour starts with hotel pickup from your Las Vegas location—Treasure Island Hotel is the default, though you can request a change when you book. You'll ride in an air-conditioned vehicle with WiFi, and the driver will take you to the Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. Once there, you walk up the steps to the pedestrian walkway and stand directly above the Hoover Dam and the Colorado River, 900 feet down. The bridge gives you a clear view of the dam's structure, the spillways and intake towers, and you'll have about 20 minutes to take pictures and absorb the scale of it.

After the bridge, the tour drives through Boulder City Historic District, the town where workers and their families lived during the dam's construction in the 1930s. Most of the original buildings and homes have been preserved, and the town has kept much of its character through the decades. You'll see the historic architecture and the layout of the town as it was built around the project. There's also a free visit to the Hoover Dam Museum, and the town has cafes, antique shops, and an art walk with bronze statues if you want to explore on foot. A second photo stop on the Arizona side gives you another 15 minutes to capture different angles of the dam and its infrastructure.

No luggage is allowed on the bus due to Bureau of Reclamation restrictions, so plan to leave suitcases at your hotel—smaller personal bags and backpacks are fine. The tour runs about 4.5 hours total, and you'll be back in time for afternoon plans. Bring extra water beyond the complimentary bottle provided, especially if you're visiting in warmer months, since you'll be walking and standing outside for parts of the day.

Is this one for you?The tour involves walking up steps to the bridge overlook and standing outside for photography, so it suits travelers comfortable with moderate movement and sun exposure. If you're traveling with luggage, plan to leave it at your hotel, since the bus doesn't allow suitcases—this works well for day trips from a Las Vegas base, but not for travelers arriving that morning with checked bags.
