The experience
I didn’t expect to smell so much: like actual flowers, not that fake air-freshener stuff. The moment we stepped past the ticket line (which was already snaking around by 10am), it just hit me: a mix of damp earth, jasmine, something sweet I couldn’t name. Our driver, Ahmed, had joked in the van about “Dubai’s only real spring,” and honestly, he wasn’t wrong. There’s this weird feeling of being somewhere totally unnatural but also kind of perfect? I kept stopping to touch petals just to check if they were real.
The Dubai Miracle Garden is huge: way bigger than I’d pictured from Instagram. We wandered under these umbrella tunnels where little kids were shrieking and chasing each other, and then suddenly you’re staring at a full-sized Emirates A380 made out of flowers. It’s absurd in the best way. My friend tried to count how many colors she could spot on the butterfly sculptures but gave up after twenty-something. I got distracted by a group of women posing for selfies in front of a heart-shaped archway. Their laughter echoed over the music playing somewhere in the background (I think it was Arabic pop?).
We took our time (no rush since we’d skipped the lines), and found a shady bench near the Sunflower Field. The sun was out but there was this soft breeze (rare for Dubai), and for a second it felt like we weren’t in a city at all. Bottled water never tasted so good after walking those winding paths. I still think about that view across the garden. Just wild color everywhere, people from all over taking photos or just sitting quietly like us. Didn’t want to leave yet, but eventually we wandered back toward the entrance with dusty shoes and about fifty new photos on my phone.
