Step-by-step itinerary
Explore markets and enjoy local food
- Eat popular doubles street food
- Visit Queen's Park Savannah farmers' market
- Drink freshly squeezed sugar cane juice
- Walk through market and buy local products
- Drive to Tunapuna Market
- Experience sights and tastes of Tunapuna Market
- Enjoy seasonal tropical fruits
The experience
The tour starts with hotel pickup and heads straight to a street food vendor for doubles: fried bread, chickpeas and spicy sauces, Trinidad's most popular street food. You'll also get a spicy fried pastry with your choice of fillings. From there, the minivan takes you to Queen's Park Savannah in uptown Port of Spain, where a farmers' market runs year-round. You'll have freshly squeezed sugar cane juice and local sweet snacks while walking through stalls run by local artisans selling homemade teas, coffee, and handicrafts.
The second market stop is Tunapuna, a bustling town outside Port of Spain where the market is the real draw. You'll see and taste seasonal tropical fruits (mangoes, pineapples, guavas) picked fresh and sold by vendors. The guide walks you through the sights, sounds and smells of a Caribbean market in full swing, explaining what you're seeing and tasting as you go. Bottled water is provided throughout the morning.
The whole experience runs three hours and wraps up with drop-off back at your hotel. The tour operates in all weather, so dress for the conditions. A local guide leads the group in English, and if you need vegetarian options, let the operator know when you book.

Top questions
What exactly are doubles, and will I actually like them?
Doubles are Trinidad's most iconic street food: two pieces of fried bread (called "bara") filled with seasoned chickpeas and topped with spicy sauces. The tour includes them fresh from a vendor, and you'll also get a spicy fried pastry with your choice of fillings. They're designed to be eaten by hand and are what locals grab for breakfast or a quick meal.
Do I need to buy anything extra at the markets, or is food included?
Breakfast and beverages are included in the tour price. At Queen's Park Savannah you get sugar cane juice and local snacks. At Tunapuna you'll taste seasonal tropical fruits. You have the option to purchase additional items from local vendors (homemade products, handicrafts, extra fruit), but nothing beyond the included stops is required.
How does hotel pickup work, and what time does the tour start?
Hotel pickup is included and the operator will arrange the specific pickup time when you book, based on where you're staying in Trinidad. The tour is a Saturday morning experience, so you'll be picked up early enough to catch the markets when they're most active, then dropped back at your hotel when the three hours are done.
Is this tour suitable if I'm vegetarian?
Yes. Vegetarian options are available, but you need to request them when you book so the operator can arrange alternatives to the meat-filled pastries and other items. Let them know your dietary needs at the time of reservation.
What's the difference between the two markets on this tour?
Queen's Park Savannah is an uptown farmers' market in Port of Spain where local artisans sell homemade teas, coffee, and handicrafts alongside fresh produce. Tunapuna is a bustling market town outside the city where the focus is on seasonal tropical fruits and the energy of a full Caribbean market in action. Together they show two sides of how Trinidadians shop and eat.
