The experience
The tour starts at Port of Spain's old lighthouse and moves through the city center, passing the Red House (Parliament's official seat), the National Museum, and the National Academy for the Performing Arts. From there you reach Queen's Park Savannah, where the Magnificent Seven (a collection of Victorian and colonial-era mansions) ring the open green space. A stop at the Royal Botanical Gardens follows before the drive heads north out of the city.
The Saddle Road climb is the spine of the journey. Before reaching Maracas Beach itself, the tour stops at two lookouts (Lady Young and Maracas), where the views open across the island and the coast. Both are set up for photographs and local vendors sell snacks, sweets and handmade crafts. At Maracas Beach, you have time to settle under the line of coconut trees, order a shark and bake sandwich and a local beer, and simply be there before the return drive to Port of Spain.
A minimum of two people per booking is required. Solo travelers pay an extra 50% of the ticket cost. Pickup and drop-off are included within Port of Spain. Pickups outside the city carry an additional fee. The guide speaks English and drives the whole route.
