The experience
The morning starts at the local market, where your guide walks you through the stalls and explains the ingredients that anchor Thai cooking: kaffir lime leaves, chilies, lemongrass, galangal. You'll see how the market works and pick out the fresh produce and herbs you'll cook with later. This is not a tour of the market. It's a shopping trip where you learn what you're buying and why it matters to the dish.
Back at the kitchen on the island, you'll work at your own station with a certified Thai chef guiding you through three dishes you chose in advance. The menu runs from Tom Yum and Tom Kah soups to Green Curry, Massaman Curry and Panang Curry; Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao noodles; Som Tam papaya salad; spring rolls; and a dessert of banana cooked in coconut milk. You pick your protein (chicken, beef, pork, prawn, squid, fish, or vegetarian) for each dish. The chef demonstrates the technique, then you cook it yourself, tasting as you go. The class holds a small group, so there's room to ask questions and watch what others are making.
You eat the three dishes you've cooked once they're ready, finishing with the dessert. The whole experience runs three hours. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included from Chaweng, Chaweng Noi and Lamai. Public transport options are available if you're staying elsewhere. Bring a minimum age of 15 to participate. Non-cooking companions can attend for 800 baht per adult or 500 baht per child under 10, paid to the driver on the day.

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I choose which three dishes I want to cook?
Yes. You pick three dishes from the menu before the class: options include Tom Yum, Tom Kah, Green Curry, Massaman Curry, Panang Curry, Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, Som Tam, spring rolls and banana coconut dessert. For each dish, you also choose your protein: chicken, beef, pork, prawn, squid, fish or vegetarian.
What happens at the local market?
Your guide takes you through the market to shop for the fresh ingredients you'll need for your three dishes. You'll learn what kaffir lime, lemongrass, galangal and chilies are, where to find them and why they're essential to Thai cooking. It's a working market visit, not a sightseeing tour.
Do I cook by myself or with a group?
You cook in a small group class at your own culinary station. A certified Thai chef guides you and the other participants step-by-step through each dish, so you have hands-on instruction and room to ask questions as you work.

Can I attend if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?
You can choose your protein for each dish (chicken, beef, pork, prawn, squid, fish or vegetarian), so vegetarian cooking is built in. For allergies or other dietary concerns, contact the operator before booking to confirm what can be arranged.
