The experience

You start the morning at your hotel on one of Phuket's main beaches, where the driver picks you up and brings you to meet your guide. After a safety briefing and time to adjust your bicycle, you head straight into the farming communities that make up northern Phuket's interior. The first stretch takes you through dense jungle in a protected forest, where you stop at one of the island's tiniest villages to sample fresh coconut and homemade snacks while meeting locals who live there.

The ride opens up into Phuket's biggest pineapple fields (endless rows of low green plants stretching across the landscape), then carries you through rubber and palm oil plantations and past sleepy villages and fish farms. You learn how the farming lifestyle works here as you cycle along, moving at a pace that lets you take it in. The coastal road comes next, winding toward Laem Sai pier on the remote northeast edge of the island, where the landscape shifts from inland crops to shrimp farms and water views.

Lunch waits at the pier with a view across the Andaman Sea toward mainland Thailand. You refuel with Thai food while sitting in that view, then the return journey brings you back to your hotel. The whole outing runs about five and a half hours from pickup to drop-off.
