The experience

The day begins with a 6am hotel pickup and a scenic drive inland toward Khao Sok National Park. By 7:30am you're standing at Samet Nangshe, the viewpoint known locally as the Avatar Mountains for its dramatic limestone formations rising from the jungle. The vistas stretch across the region. This is the stop most travelers come for photographs. From there the route moves to Wat Bangthong, a temple dedicated to King Rama X, before the landscape shifts entirely at Cheow Lan Lake.

The lake crossing happens by longtail boat, the traditional wooden craft that lets you move slowly enough to absorb the scale of the cliffs. A photo stop at Gui Lin Rock (the iconic formation rising from the water) breaks up the cruise, and the boat takes you to a raft house where lunch is served. By 3pm you're at Cheow Lan Viewpoint for a final vantage before the drive back to Phuket, arriving between 6 and 7pm. The full loop runs roughly 12 hours door to door.
