The day's centerpiece is the Golden Triangle, the point where the Mekong River divides Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. You'll stand at the confluence and look across the water at the physical border. If you want a closer view, a boat ride on the Mekong costs an extra 300 baht. Before the return to Chiang Rai, the tour stops in Mae Sai, a border town with a large market for shopping, and finishes at Chiang Saen. A city that was abandoned for over a century and has since been revived. You'll see the grand double city walls and the antiquities scattered through the site. Lunch is a buffet meal at a local restaurant partway through the day.
