Kayak Through 30,000 Islands & Lunch on Your Own Beach

You paddle through Stockholm's 30,000-island archipelago with a local guide, learning kayak basics before heading into the Baltic to spot eagles and swans. Lunch is organic and served on a private island beach, with Swedish fika somewhere along the route. The minivan picks you up from central Stockholm and returns you there after the full day, so you don't arrange transport or timing yourself.

The Experience

The minivan pulls away from central Stockholm, and within 45 minutes the city noise is gone. You're standing on a dock in the archipelago, holding a paddle, looking out at water that stretches into what feels like forever — except it's not empty. It's threaded with islands. Thousands of them. Your guide runs through the safety talk and kayak basics, and then you're pushing off into the Baltic, the paddle in your hands feeling lighter than you expected. The archipelago kayak route takes you past bird colonies and old fortresses, through narrow channels between small islands and into open water where the horizon just keeps going.

The paddling itself is steady and manageable — your guide sets a pace that works for everyone, and the kayaks are stable enough that you're not fighting to stay upright. What catches you is the birdlife. Swans, sea eagles, cormorants — they're not rare sightings here, they're just part of the day. You'll stop somewhere along the way, maybe rope the kayaks together for a moment of Swedish fika (coffee and pastries), and then keep moving. The whole thing has a rhythm to it: paddle, look, listen, paddle again.

Around midday your guide picks out an island — sometimes it's the same one every trip, sometimes it changes — and you beach the kayaks. Lunch is restaurant-prepared and organic, spread out on the sand of your own private island in the middle of the Baltic. It's the kind of detail that sounds small until you're actually sitting there eating it. After lunch there's time to move around, and then the paddle back to the dock. Your guide brings you safely back to the meeting point in central Stockholm, and the whole day — the drive, the kayaking, the island, the return — is done.

Groups stay small, maximum eight people, which means you're not paddling in a line of thirty. Children between 8 and 12 go in a double kayak with an adult, so if you're bringing a kid, that's how it works. Drybags keep your phone and wallet safe, and the equipment — buoyancy vest, paddle, spray skirt, kayak — is all provided. You just show up and paddle.

What’s included

Your day includes pickup and drop-off from central Stockholm, a 45-minute minivan drive to the archipelago, kayak instruction and safety briefing, a guided paddling excursion through the islands, all equipment (stable sea kayak, buoyancy vest, paddle, spray skirt), drybags to keep your items dry, a restaurant-prepared organic lunch on a private island beach, Swedish fika with coffee and pastries, and return transport to your meeting point. Groups are kept small at a maximum of 8 participants.
