Three hours in the water after sunset, flashlight in hand, watching what the reef becomes at night

Night snorkeling at Anse Cochon Marine Reserve in Saint Lucia is a 3-hour activity where you enter the water with a mask, snorkel, fins and flashlight to observe nocturnal marine life under moonlight. The boat departs Marigot Bay dock at 5:30 p.m., giving you the sunset during the ride out to the reserve. A live English-speaking guide leads the snorkeling, and bottled water is provided; lifejackets are available if needed.

The Experience

You meet the boat at Marigot Bay's main dock at 5:30 p.m. and ride out to Anse Cochon, watching the light change over the water as you go. The snorkeling itself runs about an hour in the reserve, where the flashlight reveals fish and corals that stay hidden during the day—nocturnal species move differently, feed differently, and the beam picks out details the sun would wash out. Bring a GoPro if you want to capture it; the warm water and the setup make recording straightforward.

The gear is supplied: mask, snorkel, fins, and the flashlight that makes the whole thing work. Lifejackets are there if you want one. Bottled water comes with you. The activity assumes moderate fitness and comfort in the water; it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or cardiovascular concerns. A guide in English stays with the group and knows where the nocturnal action is.
