The experience
The boat leaves from Castries cruise terminal or your hotel dock and heads straight to Marigot Bay, where the guide walks you through the bay's history (wars, film shoots, notable residents) before you decide whether to swim or grab a drink at the waterfront bar. From there you pass two brightly colored fishing villages while the guide explains the local culture, then move into the water itself: snorkeling at Anse Chastanet Beach and Reef, a black sand marine reserve where you actually enter the water and see the wildlife, or at the white sand beach nestled between Gros Piton, where the same happens. The boat positions you to photograph the Pitons from the water, where their true scale becomes clear.
You bring your own swimsuit. The operator provides snorkel equipment, life jackets or noodles, bottled water, local beers and rum, and soft drinks. The charter fits between two and eight people depending on which boat you book (the 25ft Knotty Behavior or the 28ft Still Knotty), and both include hotel pickup from select docks in the North, or free pickup at Castries cruise terminal. A fuel surcharge applies depending on where you depart: $40 for Castries pickups, $50 from Marigot Bay, $100 from Soufriere. Lunch recommendations are available if you want to eat ashore. Optional add-ons like Sulphur Springs or Piton Falls cost extra and are arranged on request.
