The Experience

The boat leaves from Anse La Raye, a working fishing village on the west coast where small boats still move along the bay the way they have for generations. From there, the route takes you past Soufrière Bay—the anchorage used for Hollywood film backdrops—and toward the Pitons themselves: two massive volcanic plugs that rise straight out of the water and hold the island's most significant landmark. The coral reefs that blanket the marine area around them are home to dozens of fish species moving through water so clear the depth is almost disorienting.

Snorkeling happens in the shallow reef zones where the color concentration is highest—the corals shift through reds, yellows and purples, and the fish move in schools dense enough that you stop counting.
