You’ll watch whales and dolphins glide through Costa Adeje’s waters on this small group tour from Puerto Colón, with sandwiches and drinks included. Your local guide shares stories as you spot turtles and catch views of Teide volcano in the distance. It’s two hours of ocean air, laughter, and moments you’ll probably remember longer than you expect.
Someone handed me a sandwich before we even left Puerto Colón — I think it was jamón and cheese, nothing fancy, but the saltiness hit just right as we drifted out past the marina. Our guide (I never caught her name, she had this sun-faded cap and a laugh that carried over the engine) pointed out the line where the water deepens. “That’s where they like to show up,” she said, and I swear everyone leaned forward at once, scanning for any sign of movement.
The first dolphins came up so quietly I almost missed them — just these smooth arcs breaking the surface, barely a splash. Someone’s kid squealed and I grinned at how contagious that was. The air smelled faintly of sunscreen and something metallic from the sea; not unpleasant, just sharp. We saw pilot whales too (our guide called them calderones), their backs dark against the lighter water. She told us they live here all year round — I didn’t know that about Costa Adeje before.
I tried to film one of the turtles but my phone fogged up from the spray — typical me. Honestly though, watching them in real time was better anyway. There was this moment when everything went quiet except for a distant gull and you could see Teide behind us, hazy but huge. That view sticks with me more than any photo would’ve. And then someone passed around cold drinks (Coke or water mostly), which felt like such a small kindness after squinting into all that sunlight.
We headed back after two hours or so, sunburnt and wind-tangled, still talking about how close those whales got to the boat. There’s something about seeing those animals in their own world that makes you feel smaller in a good way — not sure how else to put it.
Your day includes a 2-hour small group boat excursion from Puerto Colón with sandwiches and drinks provided along the way; your local guide shares insights about whales, dolphins, turtles, and Costa Adeje’s coastline before returning to port together at the end.
