Luxury yacht tour from Las Galletas to Los Cristianos for wild whale and dolphin encounters plus swimming and tapas

You’ll set out from Las Galletas on a luxury yacht with a local crew for wild whale and dolphin watching off Tenerife’s coast. Watch dolphins play close by, listen to stories from your guide, swim or snorkel in clear bays near Los Cristianos, and share Spanish tapas with new friends before heading back — it’s an experience that lingers long after you’re dry.

3h

Step-by-step itinerary

Whale watching and coastal cruise

  • Start excursion from Las Galletas
  • Watch whales and dolphins in nature
  • Crew shares facts about marine animals
  • Cruise along coast with Teide views
  • Anchor at Los Cristianos cliffs
  • Swim, snorkel, relax with drinks and tapas

The Experience

I’ll be honest, I was a bit jittery before we even left Las Galletas — not scared, just that weird mix of excitement and “what if we don’t see anything?” The yacht looked almost too fancy for me (I kept worrying I’d spill something), but the crew just smiled and waved us aboard like it was nothing. There was this salty breeze right away, kind of sticky on my skin, but in a good way. Our guide — I think his name was Mateo — started pointing out little things about the coast as we pulled away, but honestly I was already scanning the water for any sign of whales or dolphins. Couldn’t help it.

The first time someone shouted “there!” I nearly dropped my drink. A pod of dolphins zipped alongside us, close enough that you could hear their quick breaths over the engine. It’s strange how loud they are when you’re that close — not what I expected. Mateo told us about how they hunt together here off Tenerife, and then suddenly there were whales too, surfacing with these deep whooshes. One of them rolled so slowly it felt like time stopped for a second. I still think about that view sometimes when I’m stuck in traffic back home.

After all that excitement, drifting along the coast past Teide felt almost dreamlike. The sun kept sliding behind clouds and then popping out again, making the water flash silver-blue one minute and then almost black the next. We anchored near Los Cristianos — apparently one of the best bays for swimming — and some people dove right in. I hesitated (the water looked cold) but ended up snorkeling anyway because everyone else made it look fun. There were these tiny fish everywhere; one bumped my mask and startled me so much I swallowed half the Atlantic. Lunch was simple: Spanish tapas, cold drinks, lots of laughter at my expense when I tried to say “papas arrugadas” properly. Mateo laughed too — probably deserved it.

I didn’t want to leave when we headed back toward Las Galletas. The whole thing felt both luxurious and oddly grounding at the same time — maybe it’s just being out on open water with strangers who suddenly feel familiar by the end of a few hours together.
