Make Gambas al Pil-Pil, Chorizo al Infierno, and three more tapas in a farmhouse kitchen, then sit down to eat them.

A hands-on cooking class in Andalucia where you learn to make five traditional tapas (prawns with garlic and chilli, flambéed sausage, tomato soup, Malaga salad, and Spanish omelette) in a 400-year-old farmhouse kitchen run by chef Nacho and his wife. You cook for roughly five hours, then dine on the terrace overlooking mountain views. The class includes dinner, recipes to take home, and a welcome glass of wine or sherry. Minimum age is 13. The guide speaks English and Spanish.

The experience

You arrive at Nacho's farmhouse and start with a glass of wine or sherry while he walks you through the evening. Then you move into the kitchen (the same one his family has used for four centuries), and begin making tapas. The menu is fixed: Gambas al Pil-Pil (prawns with garlic and chilli), Chorizo al Infierno (sausage flambéed with brandy), Porra Antequerana (a cold tomato soup with garnishes), Ensalada Malagueña (Malaga salad with potatoes, avocado, oranges and local olive oil), and Tortilla Española (Spanish omelette made with organic, free-range eggs). Nacho guides you through each one, and you do the cooking yourself.

Once the dishes are ready, everyone moves to the terrace. You sit down to eat what you've made, surrounded by mountain views. The meal includes the five tapas you cooked plus other local seafood, meats and vegetarian dishes. Wine flows, and the evening stretches across the five hours the class runs. You leave with the recipes written down and the skills to make them again at home.

Is this one for you?The class runs in English and Spanish, so you can follow Nacho's instruction comfortably in whichever language you speak. The fixed menu means everyone learns the same five dishes and eats together, which works well if you want to cook alongside others rather than have a private session.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English and Spanish.

What tapas do we actually make during the class?

The five dishes are Gambas al Pil-Pil (prawns with garlic and chilli), Chorizo al Infierno (sausage flambéed with brandy), Porra Antequerana (cold tomato soup), Ensalada Malagueña (Malaga salad with potatoes, avocado and oranges), and Tortilla Española (Spanish omelette). Nacho says the prawns are a star tapa in his home kitchen.

Do we eat what we cook, or is this just instruction?

You cook the tapas and then eat them on the terrace as part of the class. The meal also includes other local seafood, meats and vegetarian dishes beyond what you've made yourself.

How long is the whole class, and what's included in the price?

The class runs five hours and includes the cooking instruction, dinner, a welcome glass of wine or sherry, and printed recipes to take home. You learn the techniques and the ingredients for each dish.

Can I attend if I have food allergies or dietary restrictions?

Yes, but you need to tell Nacho and his wife about any allergies or special diet when you book so they can plan the menu accordingly.
