Eat what the village makes, at a table where strangers become friends

A three-hour tapas dinner in Algatocin, a mountain village south of Ronda, where you eat at the communal table of a professional chef and his translator wife. Marina and Nacho cook Andalusian dishes (fresh prawns with garlic, chorizo flambéed in brandy, Spanish omelette, local salad), and pour wine, beer and an aperitif while you sit on their farmhouse terrace overlooking the countryside. Groups stay under eight.

The experience

You arrive at a farmhouse set in the forest in the mountains south of Ronda, the number one destination in Spain. The terrace opens onto the view. Marina and Nacho have worked in Michelin-starred kitchens and spent years building this table for people who want to eat the way the village does, not a performance, but a meal. The menu turns on what Algatocin is known for: the pork, fresh prawns with garlic and chilli, chorizo flambéed with brandy, a cold tomato soup called Porra Antequerana, potatoes and avocado with local olive oil and fresh orange, Spanish omelette. Aperitif, wine and beer flow throughout. You can bring your own if you prefer.

Communal dining means you sit with other guests: up to eight at the table. The hosts built this experience on the old Celtic motto they live by: come as a stranger, leave as a friend. That is not marketing language here. It is how they describe what happens. Three hours is the shape of the evening, long enough to eat slowly and talk, short enough to fit into a free afternoon or an evening in the region.
