3h

Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Zemun's highlights and riverwalk

  • Ride along Zemunski kej riverwalk
  • Feed swans and take photos
  • Visit Palace of Serbia building
  • See Gardos Tower (Millennium Tower)
  • Peek at old Zemun cemetery
  • Walk main pedestrian zone and Magistrate
  • Pass through Main street, loudest street

The Experience

Three hours on an e-scooter takes you through Zemun's separate identity—a place that merged with Belgrade in 1934 but kept its own character. The Danube riverwalk, called Zemunski kej, is where you start: swans drift past, the water opens up, and the atmosphere shifts from Belgrade's city center into something closer to a Mediterranean waterfront. You'll pass the Palace of Serbia, a monumental communist-era building that stands out against the older Austrian-Hungarian architecture around it.

Gardos Tower, also known as the Millennium Tower, is the reason people climb Zemun's oldest quarter. Built in 1896 to mark a thousand years of Hungarian settlement in the Pannonian plain, it combines Roman and other architectural styles and has become Zemun's symbol. From the top, you see the whole city spread below you—the Danube, New Belgrade's blocks, the old town. The guide takes you through the old Zemun cemetery, then down into the pedestrian zone where the Magistrate building anchors the city center, and along the main street (statistically Belgrade's loudest). The route moves at the pace of the scooter, not a walking tour's stop-and-start, so you cover ground and still absorb the neighborhoods as they change.

E-scooters are provided with helmets and safety instructions before you ride. The tour works for all fitness levels because you're riding, not walking, though you'll dismount at stops and climb stairs to Gardos Tower. Children from age 14 can join. Public transportation is nearby if you need it before or after, and the guide speaks English or Serbian depending on the group.

Top questions

What is Gardos Tower and why is it worth the climb?

Gardos Tower, built in 1896 as the Millennium Tower, sits in Zemun's oldest quarter and offers the best viewpoint of Belgrade from above—you see the entire city, the Danube, and the surrounding landscape from the top. It's a symbol of Zemun and combines Roman and other architectural styles.

Can I ride an e-scooter if I've never used one before?

Yes. The tour includes helmet and safety instructions before you ride, and it's suitable for all physical fitness levels. You'll learn how to operate the scooter safely before the group moves out.

What's the difference between Zemun and central Belgrade?

Zemun was its own town until 1934 and still maintains a separate identity. It has Austrian-Hungarian architecture, a Danube riverwalk with Mediterranean vibes, and a friendlier, quieter atmosphere than Belgrade's city center—it's known as the Montmartre of Belgrade.

Is this tour suitable for teenagers?

Children are welcome from age 14. They'll need to be comfortable riding an e-scooter and following the guide's instructions, and they'll receive the same safety briefing and helmet as all riders.

What happens if I want to stop for lunch in Zemun?

Zemun is famous for its fishermen and seafood restaurants along the riverwalk. The tour passes through the main pedestrian zone and along the Danube, so you'll see dining spots, though lunch is not part of the scheduled tour—you can arrange that separately if you want to extend your time there.
