The experience

The tour leaves Bucharest with hotel pickup and heads into the Carpathian Mountains toward Peleș Castle, the summer residence of Romania's royal family until 1948. The castle sits in Sinaia and stands as one of Europe's most elaborate neo-Renaissance buildings, with ornate interiors that reflect centuries of royal occupation. Entry tickets must be purchased online in advance: availability runs tight and the castle closes Mondays and Tuesdays, so booking three weeks ahead is essential. From there, the route continues to Bran Castle, the fortress most visitors associate with the Dracula legend, though the castle itself has no connection to Bram Stoker's novel. What stands instead is a medieval stronghold that Queen Maria adopted as a royal residence after World War I, its stone corridors and ramparts spanning centuries of Romanian history. The day ends in Brașov, a medieval city in the foothills where Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance architecture line the cobbled old town.
