The Experience

University Square at 7 AM. The bus pulls up, your guide checks the passenger list, and you're heading north into the Carpathians before the city wakes. Peles Castle sits in Sinaia—the "Pearl of the Carpathians"—about 90 minutes away, and that's where the day opens. This isn't a quick photo stop. You get up to two hours to walk the rooms where Romanian royalty spent summers, past the art and the heavy furniture and the views down the valley. The castle closes Mondays year-round and Tuesdays from August through May, so if your date falls there, the itinerary shifts to an exterior view and longer time at the other two stops—worth knowing before you book.

After Sinaia, the drive to Bran Castle takes another hour or so through the mountains. Bran is the one everyone comes for. It's the 13th-century fortress wrapped up in the Dracula legend—Vlad the Impaler, Bram Stoker's novel, all of it—and yes, the views from the citadel over the surrounding peaks are the kind you'll still think about. You'll have up to two hours here as well, which is enough to walk the rooms, climb to the top if you want, and browse the souvenir market at the base. The guide stays with you through both castles, pointing out the details that matter.

Brasov comes last, squeezed between the Southern Carpathian peaks and packed with Gothic and baroque buildings that survived centuries. It's one of Romania's most visited cities, and you'll see why in the first few minutes—the architecture is real, the squares are human-scaled, and there's enough to wander that two hours can disappear fast. Then the drive back to Bucharest, arriving around 6 or 7 PM depending on traffic. The whole day is private transport in an air-conditioned vehicle, so you're not sharing the van with strangers or waiting for other pickups. One thing to lock in before you book: Peles Castle tickets sell out by time slot (9:15–11:00 most days, 10:00–11:00 on Wednesdays), and you have to buy them in advance for the exact slot your tour uses. If they're gone, Peles has a sister castle, Pelisor, that's worth the swap.
