The experience
The drive from Bucharest heads into the Prahova Valley and toward the Carpathian Mountains, passing the Arch of Triumph on the way out and a refinery that marks the industrial edge of the city before the landscape opens. Sinaia, known as the "Pearl of the Carpathians," is where you stop first to see Peleș Castle, the former summer residence of the Romanian Royal Family, set in a forest in the foothills. The castle itself is the draw: a 19th-century royal retreat with rooms and grounds that speak to the scale of the building and its setting.
From there, the route continues to Bran Castle, the medieval fortress built in 1212 by the Teutonic Knights and linked in popular imagination to Vlad the Impaler and the Dracula legend. The stories and the history are what make the stop worth the time. You'll walk the grounds and hear how the castle sits at the intersection of fact and folklore. The day ends in Brasov, one of Romania's most charming medieval towns, where you have free time to walk the cobblestone streets of the Old Town, see the colorful Saxon houses, and stop for food or shopping in the Council Square before the drive back to Bucharest.
The vehicle is private and air-conditioned, with a guide who speaks English or Italian throughout the day. Snacks and Romanian spring mineral water are included. WiFi in the car lets you stay connected between stops. You decide at each castle whether to buy a ticket and go inside or stay outside and photograph the exteriors: castle entry is not included, and tickets run about 100 Romanian lei each if you choose to buy them.

Is this one for you?The eight to ten hour commitment means you leave Bucharest in the morning and return by evening, which fits a single day but rules out a leisurely pace or time for a long lunch in town. If you want to see three major landmarks and still have daylight for each one, this schedule makes it possible. If you prefer a slower exploration of one or two sites, a shorter private tour would suit you better.

What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Italian.
What happens if it rains?

What is Peleș Castle and why is it worth visiting?
Peleș Castle is the former summer residence of the Romanian Royal Family, built in the 19th century and set in a forest in the Carpathian foothills near Sinaia. It's one of the most recognizable landmarks in Romania and the centerpiece of the morning portion of the trip.
Is Bran Castle really connected to the Dracula story?
Bran Castle, built in 1212 by the Teutonic Knights, is often called "Dracula's Castle" because of its association with Vlad the Impaler and medieval Transylvania, though the historical connection is more legend than fact. The castle itself is a medieval fortress with real history and the stories that surround it.
What can I do in Brasov's Old Town during the free time?
