The experience
You leave Bucharest with your guide and private vehicle heading north into Transylvania. The first day reaches Peleș Castle, one of Romania's most visited landmarks, then Bran Castle: famous for its Dracula associations but rich in actual history beyond the legend. By afternoon you're in the remote villages of Pestera and Magura, nestled between the Piatra Craiului and Bucegi Mountains, where the pace of life has barely changed in decades. Dinner and breakfast are included at your guesthouse, and the mountain setting gives you a genuine sense of the quieter Transylvania most tours skip.
Day two starts with an optional walk or hike through the villages (personalized to your fitness and the weather), then you head to Viscri to see the UNESCO-listed Saxon fortified church, a white Gothic structure built around 1100. The drive continues to Sighișoara, where you spend the night inside the walled citadel itself: the only inhabited medieval town of its kind in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1999. A walking tour shows you the layout and stories of this place, birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, and you have the evening to explore the narrow streets on your own.
The final day takes you to Brașov, one of Transylvania's largest medieval towns, with a walking tour of the old city and a short cable car ride up the nearby mountain for a view of how the medieval layout sits in the landscape. Then it's a three-hour drive back to Bucharest, where your guide drops you at your hotel or anywhere else in the city you choose. The route covers a lot in three days, so one day is naturally longer, but the balance keeps it from feeling rushed.

Top questions
What's the difference between Bran Castle and Peleș Castle on this tour?
Peleș Castle is one of Romania's most visited landmarks, known for its architecture and royal history. Bran Castle, also called Dracula Castle, carries the famous legend but the tour separates myth from the real stories and history of the place during the guided visit.
Can I walk around Sighișoara on my own after the tour?
Yes. After the walking tour on day two, you have the evening free to explore the walled citadel at your own pace. You're staying inside the old town, so the narrow streets and landmarks are right outside your hotel.
What kind of walks or hikes happen on day two?
After breakfast, your guide offers a couple of hours of walking through the mountain villages or a hike to Zarnesti Gorge, depending on the weather and what you're comfortable with. The actual route is personalized on the spot based on conditions and your fitness level.
Is Viscri village difficult to reach or walk through?
Viscri is a stop on the way to Sighișoara. The UNESCO-listed Saxon church sits in the village, and you visit it during a guided stop. The village itself is rural and authentic, but the tour is designed for travelers with at least a moderate level of mobility: cobblestones and some stairs are part of the experience.
How much time do I spend driving versus walking and exploring?
Day one is mostly driving and castle visits. Day two mixes a morning walk or hike with the stop in Viscri and arrival in Sighișoara for an evening walking tour. Day three includes a walking tour of Brașov and then a three-hour drive back to Bucharest. One day is naturally longer to fit everything in, but stops are flexible and your guide adjusts the pace.
