The experience
You leave Bucharest in the morning by minivan and head north toward the Carpathians. The first stop is Peles Castle in Sinaia, the former summer residence of Romania's first royal couple: a 19th-century palace built with electricity, central heating and an elevator when most of Europe still relied on gas lamps. From there the route climbs to Brasov, a medieval commercial hub first documented in 1235, where you walk the narrow cobblestone streets of the old center past the Council Square and the Black Church, the largest Gothic structure in Eastern Europe. In the evening you drive to Sighisoara and check into a 3-star hotel for the night with breakfast included.
Day two starts inside Sighisoara's citadel, a UNESCO Monument and the only inhabited medieval citadel left in Europe. Your guide takes you through the preserved defense walls and towers, up the 175-step wooden staircase that schoolchildren still use to reach the Hill School, and to the Church on the Hill, the third largest church in Transylvania. After Sighisoara, you head south to Bran Castle, the fortress tied to the Dracula legend, where the guide explains how that story was born and why it still clings to the region. The minivan then returns you to Bucharest by evening.
The tour runs with a small group and a professional English-speaking guide. Breakfast is included each morning. Lunch and dinner are on your own. Peles Castle closes Mondays and Tuesdays year-round and throughout November for conservation: on those dates you visit Pelisor Castle instead. If you need a single room, there is a 30 euro supplement payable to the guide at departure.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (7 to 11 years). Children under 7 can't be included in the booking.
What is Peles Castle and why does it matter on this tour?
Peles Castle in Sinaia was the summer residence of Romania's first king and queen, built in the late 1800s with then-modern features like electricity and central heating. It is considered one of Europe's most beautiful castles and is the first major stop on day one before you reach Brasov.
Is Sighisoara really a place where people still live?
Yes, Sighisoara is the only inhabited medieval citadel left in Europe and is a UNESCO Monument. The narrow streets, defense towers and medieval houses are still home to residents, which is why the guide describes it as a place where time moves differently.
What is the Black Church and where do I see it?
The Black Church is the largest Gothic structure in Eastern Europe, located in Brasov's old town center. You walk past it during the guided tour of the medieval city on day one.
Does the tour include meals?
Breakfast is included each morning at your hotel in Sighisoara. Lunch and dinner are not included, so you choose where to eat in Brasov and Sighisoara.
What happens if Peles Castle is closed when I visit?
Peles Castle closes on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the year and during all of November for annual maintenance. When it is closed, the tour visits Pelisor Castle instead, which is also a royal residence in the same area.
