The experience
What makes this class different is that the recipes aren't created for tourists. They come from a real Portuguese family kitchen, passed down through generations. You'll cook dishes that Portuguese families make at home but visitors rarely find on restaurant menus: Peixinhos da Horta (crispy green bean fritters), then either Ervilhas com Chouriço e Ovos Escalfados (pea stew with chorizo and poached eggs, October to March) or Bacalhau à Brás (salt cod with onions, eggs and crispy potatoes, April to September). The class centers on Avó Lurdes' original handwritten Chocolate Salami recipe, which is framed in the kitchen as a piece of family history you'll learn to make yourself.
The instructor guides you through each step (chopping, stirring, tasting, cooking), while explaining the traditions behind Portuguese home cooking. This isn't about fine dining or complicated techniques. It's about the food that brings families together. After you finish cooking, you gather around a shared table to taste what you've made, accompanied by Portuguese wines carefully selected to pair with each dish. Bottled water is provided, and you'll receive the recipes in a PDF to take home.
