The experience
How do you get down a 50-meter waterfall without ropes and anchors? This canyoning expedition takes you through the remote canyons of the Azores: a full day of rappelling, climbing and wading through untouched terrain that few people ever reach. You'll start with a 1.5-hour hike into the heart of São Miguel Island, then enter the riverbed and follow it downward, facing a series of waterfalls that demand both technical skill and physical strength. The guides are certified through the International Canyoning Academy, and the group stays small, eight people maximum, so you get real attention while you work through each obstacle.
The descent is demanding. You'll rappel down waterfalls, scramble over natural obstacles, and move through water and rock in ways that require fitness and nerve. This is not a walk through a canyon. It's an active, technical day where your body and mind are both engaged. The operator provides all the technical gear (harnesses, ropes, helmets) plus a safety briefing before you start, and comprehensive insurance covers the whole experience. Snacks and photos of the day are included, so you have fuel and a record of what you did.
The meeting point and exact logistics depend on which language option you choose (English, Spanish or Portuguese guides are available), so confirm those details at checkout. Bring a high level of fitness and comfort with exposure. This expedition is built for people who want a real challenge, not a scenic stroll.
