The experience

Hotel pickup takes you to Esteves Island on Lake Titicaca's shore, where your guide gives a short briefing before you get on the water bike. The pedaling itself is the main event. You're moving under your own power across open water for about 1.5 hours, which means you feel the rhythm of the lake and can stop to look at things without waiting for a boat schedule. Along the way you'll pass Foroba, a rock formation island also called Devil Island, and have a real chance to spot birds and take in the landscape at the pace you're actually moving.

Once you reach the Uros Floating Islands, the bike part ends and the exploring begins. You have free time to walk the islands (which are built from totora reeds and sit on the water), and meet the people who live there. This is not a guided tour of the islands. You're on your own to wander, ask questions, and see how the community actually works. The islands are small enough that you won't get lost, and locals are used to visitors. After you've had enough time there, you pedal back to Esteves Island and get driven back to your hotel.

The activity runs in morning and afternoon slots, so you can pick the time that fits your day. You'll need at least a moderate fitness level to pedal for that long, and the guide will make sure the equipment fits before you start. All gear is included, and the whole thing (transfer, guide, bike, the ride out and back) comes as one package.
