The experience

You get picked up from your hotel and driven to the Nazca airfield, where you board a small plane for a 35-minute flight over the geoglyphs. The route passes directly over 17 figures: the monkey, condor, hummingbird, spider, astronaut and others, each one visible only from the air and only when you know where to look. The plane flies low enough that you can see the precision of the lines, some stretching hundreds of meters, carved into the desert floor between roughly 500 BCE and 500 CE, centuries before the Inca.

After landing, a local guide meets you for the second part of the tour: a walk through the Chauchilla cemetery in the desert, where Nazca burials lie exposed in their original state. The mummies are wrapped in cotton textiles and decorated with bird feathers, preserved by the dry climate. Your guide walks you through the site, explaining the burial practices and the textiles themselves. The tour ends with a return drive to your hotel.

A live guide speaks English or Spanish throughout. You receive a certificate signed by the pilot as proof of your flight. The whole experience runs between three and five hours depending on weather and traffic to the airfield.
