The experience
The journey begins before sunrise. A shared 4x4 picks you up from your Panama City lodging and drives 2.5 to 3 hours through jungle highlands (mostly curvy mountain roads with one highway stretch) stopping briefly for a snack before reaching the port by 9:00 AM. The road is not smooth, and the operator warns travelers sensitive to motion sickness to bring medication. Once at the port, you board a boat for a 30-minute ride to the islands. This leg can be wet and bumpy depending on ocean conditions. Boat transfers may stop at other islands to pick up or drop off other guests, giving you a glimpse of how the Guna community moves between settlements.
You spend the next five hours across four islands. Isla Perro (10:00 AM–12:00 PM) has white sand beaches and a shallow shipwreck where you snorkel. The crew provides a shared mask and snorkel, though you can bring your own. The Natural Pool (12:00–12:30 PM) is waist-deep, crystal-clear water where tropical fish swim around you. Isla Chichime (1:00–2:30 PM) is where lunch happens (fresh fried fish or chicken with patacones and rice, or a vegetarian plate) plus one drink (water, soda or beer). You can swim, sunbathe or walk the wide sandy beach. Isla Diablo (2:30–3:30 PM) is a final swim and photo stop before the return boat ride. Island facilities are basic: limited shade, simple bathrooms, and shallow beaches that require wading out to reach deeper water. The pace is relaxed with no fixed schedules between stops.
The return journey mirrors the outbound one: boat back to port, then the 2.5–3-hour 4x4 drive to Panama City, arriving around 7:00 PM. Bring your original passport (photocopies are not accepted to enter Guna territory), cash (there are no ATMs on the islands), sunscreen, a hat, a towel, and insect repellent. You're welcome to pack a cooler with your own snacks and drinks. The driver stops at a supermarket on the way so you can buy extras. The tour operates in shared groups of up to six passengers per vehicle, with an extra seat available at added cost if you want more space.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 9 years); Infant (under 3): free.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the shipwreck at Isla Perro like for snorkeling?
The shipwreck at Isla Perro sits in shallow water, so you can snorkel directly over it and see the wreck structure and any fish sheltering around it without needing deep diving skills.
Do I need to bring my own snorkel gear or is it provided?
A shared mask and snorkel are available from the boat crew at no extra cost, though you're welcome to bring your own equipment if you prefer.
What time do I need to be ready for pickup from Panama City?
Pickups depart between 5:00 and 5:45 AM from most Panama City lodgings, or between 5:00 and 5:15 AM if you're staying in the Playa Bonita area. The driver cannot wait more than 10 minutes past your scheduled time.
Is the boat ride to the islands rough?
The 30-minute boat ride can be wet and bumpy depending on ocean conditions. If you're prone to seasickness, bring medication and be prepared for a faster, choppier ride than a calm bay crossing.
What food and drinks are included in the tour?
Lunch is a fresh meal of fried or grilled fish or chicken served with patacones (fried plantains), rice and salad, or a vegetarian plate of patacones with rice and salad. One beverage is included (water, soda or beer), and you can bring a cooler with your own snacks and drinks.
Why is the drive so long, and what are the roads like?
The 2.5–3-hour drive from Panama City to the port crosses jungle highlands over curvy mountain roads. This distance is necessary to reach the San Blas Islands, and the operator emphasizes the journey is worth it but asks travelers not to book if the long drive is a dealbreaker.
