The experience
The day starts with a 4x4 pickup between 5:00 and 5:45 AM from your Panama City hotel, then a 3-hour drive through jungle highlands to the Port of San Blas. The road is curvy and the ride can feel long, but it crosses into Guna territory: an autonomous indigenous zone where the Guna community runs all the tourism services. Once at the port, you board a shared boat for a 30-minute crossing to Isla Perro Chico, your first snorkel site. The boat ride can be bumpy and wet, so bring water protection for your gear and yourself.
Isla Perro Chico is famous for a shallow shipwreck where tropical fish gather in waist-deep water, making it accessible whether you're an experienced snorkeler or just getting comfortable with the mask. After time there, the boat takes you to the Natural Pool: a surreal sandbar in the middle of the sea where the water stays waist-deep and starfish rest on the sandy floor. You swim, float and explore before heading to Isla Chichime for a freshly prepared island lunch (fish, chicken or vegetarian) and one drink. The island has wide beaches for swimming and sunbathing. Your last stop is Isla Diablo, a palm-fringed island where you can take photos and have a final swim before the boat returns to port around 5:00 PM. The drive back to Panama City takes another 3 hours, arriving around 7:00 PM.
Guna Yala entrance fees, shared snorkel gear (or bring your own), the 4x4 roundtrip transfer, all boat rides and the island lunch are included. The group is shared, so you'll travel with other visitors. Bring your original passport for the Guna border crossing, cash for any extras (there are no ATMs on the islands), sunscreen, a hat and motion sickness medication if you're sensitive to the curvy road or the boat ride. You're welcome to bring a cooler with your own drinks and snacks. The driver stops at a supermarket on the way so you can stock up.

Is this one for you?The early departure and long drive are what make four islands and a full day of snorkeling possible in a single trip from Panama City. If you're staying in the city center and have a full day free, the shared transport and all-inclusive pricing mean you don't arrange separate boats, meals or park fees. Everything is handled. Playa Bonita guests can book a separate pickup option at checkout.
