Step-by-step itinerary
Wadi Shab hike and beach visits
- Depart Muscat for Wadi Shab
- Hike and swim at Wadi Shab
- Swim at Bimmah Sinkhole
- Visit Fins Beach and Romantic Cave
- Drive back to Muscat
The experience
The day starts with a two-hour drive from Muscat through off-road trails and mountain scenery to reach Wadi Shab, a canyon gorge filled with palm trees and fed by clear water. Once there, you hike for 45 minutes through the wadi, moving between pools where the water stays shallow enough to wade or swim. The real draw comes at the end: you fit through narrow canyon crevices and cave openings until you reach the final pool, where a waterfall drops into the blue water inside the rock. If swimming is not your plan, you can stay in the shallower pools near the start of the hike.
After Wadi Shab, the tour moves to Bimmah Sinkhole, a natural pool where you can swim and cool off for a short time. Then comes Fins Beach, known for its dramatic white cliffs and the contrast of blue water against pale sand. The drive back to Muscat takes another two hours, giving you time to rest after the hiking and swimming.
Bring sun protection, a hat, sturdy walking shoes, swimwear and a towel. The hike involves some challenging terrain and scrambling, so moderate physical fitness helps. Bottled water is provided during the tour, and your hotel, port or airport pickup in the Muscat area is included. The guide speaks English and Arabic.

Is this one for you?Eight hours covers the two-hour drive each way, the hike and swimming at Wadi Shab, and stops at Bimmah Sinkhole and Fins Beach, so this works as a full-day commitment with little room for other activities in Muscat on the same day. If you have a free afternoon or a day between other plans, a shorter half-day option would be better.
