What’s included

Your day includes pickup and drop-off anywhere around Muscat by comfortable vehicle, all fuel along the route, bottled water throughout the journey, an English-speaking Omani guide who shares local stories as you go, plus a picnic lunch enjoyed outdoors before heading back home salty-haired and happy.

I didn’t expect the air to smell so green at Wadi Shab. Maybe it was the way the canyon walls kept the morning sun soft, or maybe just nerves — I’m not exactly a hiker, but our Omani guide, Khalid, grinned and said, “Slowly, slowly. No rush.” We picked our way over pebbles and rocks (my shoes were definitely tested), passing families picnicking under date palms. The water looked almost fake — this wild turquoise that made me want to jump in right away. But first we walked further in, past terraces where goats nibbled and kids waved. Khalid pointed out a tiny bird I’d never seen before — he called it bulbul? I probably pronounced it wrong; he laughed anyway.

The swim through that narrow gap into the cave is something I still think about. It’s dark for a second, then suddenly there’s this echo of water and a waterfall hidden inside. I felt oddly brave swimming through that “keyhole” — my heart pounding but in a good way. After drying off (sort of) we drove to Bimmah Sinkhole. The color of the water there is unreal too, but different — more blue-green than Wadi Shab. Local kids were jumping in and their laughter bounced off the rocks. I sat on the edge with my feet dangling, just listening for a bit.

Fins Beach was our last stop — white sand that squeaks under your feet and these little pebbles everywhere (I pocketed one without thinking). The sea here is gentle but bright; you can see straight to the bottom when you wade out. We ate our picnic lunch watching fishermen fix their nets nearby. The wind picked up as we headed back to Muscat and I felt salty and tired in that good way you get after swimming all day. Honestly, I didn’t want it to end — there’s something about Oman’s coastline that lingers with you after you leave.
