If you have a free day in Muscat and want to see the desert without arranging your own vehicle, this private tour handles the drive and the route. The itinerary splits into two landscapes: first, Wadi Hawar, where huge boulders frame crystal-clear blue pools and waterfalls suitable for swimming, diving and climbing. Then Wahiba Sands, where the terrain flattens into stretches of fine sand and towering dunes that roll on without end. A 4WD vehicle and an English-speaking guide come with you for the whole day, and the operator picks you up and drops you off anywhere in the Muscat area.

At Wahiba Sands you leave the main track and drive off-road into the dunes. The tour includes a stop at a traditional Bedouin house, where you try Omani coffee and dates (subject to availability) and have the option to ride a camel. Photography time is built in so you can capture the scale of the landscape. The return journey to Muscat follows the same route back through the desert.

Water is provided throughout the day. Children from age 5 are welcome. The guide speaks English and Arabic, and the vehicle is wheelchair accessible, though the terrain itself (boulder scrambling at Wadi Hawar and sand driving at Wahiba) may not suit everyone with mobility constraints or certain health conditions.
