The experience

Wahiba Sands sits about two hours from Muscat, and the drive there is part of the day. You leave from your hotel or accommodation in the Muscat area in a 4WD vehicle with your guide, stopping at Wadi Fanja for photos before reaching the dunes. Once there, camel riding comes first (the same transport local Bedouins used for moving goods across the desert), and it sets the pace before you move into the activities that demand your own control.

Quad biking is the core of the day. You operate the machine yourself across the sand, which is where the adrenaline comes from. There's no passenger seat here. After quad biking, sand boarding follows the same logic. You're the one moving down the dunes, not watching it happen. Dune bashing, where a driver takes the wheel and the vehicle moves fast over the terrain, rounds out the sequence. Lunch happens in the afternoon, and the drive back to Muscat closes the day.

Each activity carries its own fee: camel riding, quad biking, sand boarding and dune bashing are charged separately when you book or on the day. The guide speaks English, water is provided, and pickup and drop-off anywhere in the Muscat area are included. Children from age 5 can join.
