The experience

The tour starts at Al Mughsail Beach, a wide sand beach ringed with pavilions and palm trees where mountains drop straight to the water. From there you move to the blowholes, where seawater forces through rock and shoots up to 28 meters high during peak season and high tide. The phenomenon is visible year-round at high tide, and the lagoon between the beach and the blowholes draws migrating birds crossing between Africa, Europe and Asia. The final stop is Hidden Beach Viewpoint (Masood Beach), a white sand beach tucked so tightly into the mountains that it sits almost out of sight.

Your guide is a local who speaks English or Arabic and can answer questions that don't appear in guidebooks. The itinerary is not fixed. If something interests you more or you want to linger at one stop, the tour adjusts. On the return to Salalah you'll pass frankincense trees, and depending on the day you may spot camels or other animals of the Dhofar region. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and bottled water, tea and coffee are provided throughout.
