The experience
The tour starts with Taqah, a fortified village on Salalah's eastern edge, where you walk through the old town, climb to the plateau for views across the village, and visit a traditional beach. From there the route turns inland to Wadi Derbat, where a freshwater spring feeds one of Oman's largest waterfalls: a rare sight in this part of the coast. The guide stops at the Old Frankincense Souk on the way back, a traditional market near the beach where you can browse incense, oud, herbs and local crafts.
The western half of the day shifts to a different landscape entirely. Al Mughseal Beach stretches between mountains with white sand and blue water. The blow hole nearby forces seawater up through rock cavities when currents are active. Al Marneef Cave, about 40 km from Salalah, sits on a cliff above the Arabian Sea with walkways and benches built in for visitors. You'll also stop at a hidden beach where fishermen and birds gather, and at a viewpoint above Taqah village for photographs. The tour includes bottled water, coffee and tea throughout. An air-conditioned vehicle handles the driving between stops.
