The experience

If you've just arrived in Salalah or have a free afternoon, this tour covers the western coast's main draws in a single outing. You start at Ayn Khor Waterfall, tucked into the rugged terrain south of the city, where winding trails pass through date palm groves and rocky paths. From there the guide takes you to Eftalquot Viewpoint, perched 170 meters above sea level, where the Khareef season landscape spreads across the Qamar mountains. The route then descends to Al Mughsayl Beach, a long stretch of white sand backed by mountains on both sides: a popular picnic spot for locals and visitors alike.

The centerpiece is Marneef Cave and the blowholes at Al Mughsayl, located about 40 kilometers from Salalah. The cave itself is a large rocky structure facing the mountain, with smaller caves nearby that draw rock climbers. What makes the site memorable is the three natural blowholes: fountains that erupt when water forces through rock cavities in the cliffs above the Arabian Sea. After Mughsayl, the road climbs through blasted rocky gorges for about 5 kilometers up the mountain via the Zig Zag Road, then descends into Wadi Afawal, offering views that shift with every switchback.

The tour runs six to seven hours with an English-speaking guide and includes an air-conditioned vehicle for the whole route. Bottled water, coffee and tea come with the booking. Hotel pickup is included, so you don't arrange transport separately. Children of all ages can join: infants can ride in a pram or stroller, or sit on an adult's lap, and specialized infant seats are available if needed.
