The experience

Your guide meets you at the cruise ship or your hotel with a name sign and drives you in a private minivan to Cape Spartel, the northernmost point of Africa and the western entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. The Kasbah is a complex of castles built on a hilltop overlooking the city, with gardens that are part of Moulay Ismail's 17th-century palace, Dar el Makhzen. Your guide leads you through the Kasbah's main square, where Gnaoua musicians and snake charmers perform daily, then into the medina: the medieval city with its maze of narrow alleys, hidden architectural treasures and souks selling handmade items. This is where Henri Matisse once walked and painted. The colors and people of these streets inspired his most famous work. You also pass the Petit and Grand Socco Squares, Mendoubia Park and the American Legation, a National Historic Landmark.
