A two-hour kitesurfing lesson in Essaouira for groups of up to two people, taught by a multilingual local guide who walks you through equipment setup, kite handling and your first time on the water. The lesson includes all gear, wetsuit, hot shower after and free pickup from Essaouira town. Children are welcome from age 7.

The experience

You start on the beach with the fundamentals: wind direction, the wind window, how to set up your kite and the safety steps that matter before you touch the water. Your guide runs through it in English, Spanish, French, German or another language, and keeps the group small, just two people maximum, so there's time to ask questions and watch what works. The pace moves fast enough to cover real ground in two hours, but not so fast that you're lost.

Once you're ready, you move into the water for kite control: launching, landing, keeping it steady in the window. Then comes body dragging (letting the kite pull you across the water without a board), which teaches you how the power works before you stand up. You'll relaunch the kite if it goes down, get the feel of it, and when you're solid, you step onto the board for your first riding experience. Not everyone rides far on the first day, but you'll know what it feels like.

After the lesson, there's a hot shower to rinse off the salt, and the guide can point you toward a coffee or tea while you dry out. The gear stays with the school (wetsuit, kite, bar, board, harness and leash are all there), and you get a 50% discount on surfboard rentals if you want to come back and try that instead. Free pickup runs from Essaouira town and a 10-kilometer radius around it, so you don't need to arrange transport.
