The experience
You'll start on the beach at Bleuryde Watersports Center or get picked up from your hotel, where the instructor fits you with a surfboard, wetsuit and leash. Before the water, you learn the pop-up technique and paddling on the sand: the moves that matter most when you're standing up for the first time. The theory part takes the guesswork out of what happens next.
Then you're in the Atlantic with your instructor watching close. Essaouira's waves are soft and forgiving for beginners. The beach shelves gently and the water stays calm enough to focus on balance instead of fighting the ocean. You'll catch waves, practice standing, get real-time feedback, and feel the board respond under your feet. Midway through, you come back to the beach for a break and Moroccan mint tea or water: time to breathe and let your muscles rest before the second session.
The final hour in the water is where it clicks. You're refining what you learned, riding longer, and building the muscle memory that makes surfing feel less like fighting and more like moving. When you're done, the instructor gives you personal feedback on what you did well and what to work on next time, and you get photos or video on your own phone to prove you actually did it.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, French and Arabic.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Infant (6 to 15 years). Children under 6 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if I've never been on a surfboard before?
The whole class is built for total beginners. You learn the pop-up and paddling on sand first, so your body knows the motion before you hit the water. Your instructor watches you the entire time in the waves and adjusts the coaching to match your pace.
Do I need to bring my own wetsuit and board?
No. Bleuryde provides a surfboard, wetsuit and leash fitted to your size, and everything is fully insured. You just bring swimwear underneath and sunscreen.
What's the water like in Essaouira for learning?
Essaouira's beach has soft sand, gentle waves, and a relaxed vibe that suits beginners. The Atlantic swells are consistent but manageable for someone just starting out, and the beach shelves gradually so you can wade in at your own pace.
How many people will be in the class with me?
The group stays at six people maximum, so your instructor has time to watch you and give personal feedback instead of shouting instructions at a crowd.
