Master the kite, ride the Atlantic wind off Morocco's coast

A three-hour kitesurfing lesson in Essaouira teaches you to fly and control the kite, then ride the board, with instruction scaled to your level, from first-time setup through freestyle tricks. Complete equipment, full suit, and damage insurance come with every lesson. Instructors teach in English, French or Arabic.

The experience

The lesson starts with the kite itself. You'll learn to assemble and launch it, then practice piloting exercises in the air before you ever touch the board. The progression depends on your experience: if you're new to the sport, you'll spend the session on kite control and the sensation of being towed through the water. If you've already got a waterstart, the three hours move into tacking, going upwind, and transitions between moves. Advanced students work on freestyle jumps and maneuvers, or wave riding if the conditions suit it.

Equipment comes adapted to your size and level, and damage insurance covers what happens on the water. You get a full wetsuit, lockers to stash your things, and a shower after. The lesson runs as a group class with one kite shared between two students. A setup that keeps costs down and lets you learn alongside someone at a similar level. If you book alone, you'll get a kite to yourself for a supplement paid on site. If you and a partner are very different sizes or skill levels, semi-private lessons are worth asking about.

Essaouira's Atlantic coast has the wind and the space to learn safely. Public transport reaches the beach, and the instructors speak English, French or Arabic, so language won't slow you down.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English, French and Arabic.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What exactly do I learn in a three-hour kitesurfing lesson if I've never done it before?

An initiation lesson covers equipment preparation, launching and landing the kite, and kite piloting exercises to build control before you get on the board. You'll experience being towed through the water and get a feel for how the kite responds to your movements.

Do I need my own kitesurfing gear, or is everything provided?

Complete equipment adapted to your level comes with the lesson, including a full wetsuit. Damage insurance is also included, so you're covered if something gets damaged during the session.

What happens if I book the lesson alone instead of with a friend?

A solo booking becomes a semi-private lesson with one kite per person instead of shared, and you'll pay a €30 supplement on site before the course starts. This gives you more one-on-one attention from the instructor.

Can I shower and change after the lesson?

Yes. The facility includes a cloakroom, lockers, shower and sanitary facilities so you can rinse off and dry out before you leave.
