Discover Scuba Diving is a beginner's introduction to scuba at Isla Mujeres with no prior experience required. You'll complete classroom instruction, then descend to MUSA (Museo de Arte Subacuático) at 10 meters depth for your first dive among over 400 submerged statues, followed by a second dive on Manchones Reef where sea turtles, rays and eels are frequently spotted. The dive center is a 5-star PADI IDC facility; instructors speak English or Spanish and children are welcome from age 10.

The Experience

Over 400 statues sit on the seafloor at MUSA, an underwater art installation built specifically for diving. Your first dive takes you there after a brief classroom session with your instructor. The site sits at 10 meters depth with visibility often reaching 30 meters and water temperature around 27°C, conditions the dive center describes as ideal for a new diver's first plunge.

Once you're comfortable underwater, your second dive moves to Manchones Reef. This is where the marine life appears — turtles, rays, eels and a range of reef fish. The reef dive lets you practice what you learned at MUSA and see the reef ecosystem that makes Isla Mujeres a diving destination. The whole experience runs about five hours from start to finish.

Pocna Dive Center is the only 5-star PADI IDC center on the island, and all instructors are trained to that standard. Your guide conducts the class in English or Spanish. The center provides all scuba equipment, plus water and fruit during the day. You'll need at least a moderate level of physical fitness, and the dive center does not recommend this for pregnant travelers or anyone with cardiovascular concerns.
