Scuba dive Cozumel's reefs with a certified instructor guiding you through your first dive to 40 feet, where you'll see turtles, eagle rays, sharks and hundreds of fish species. The experience includes five hours total: 45 minutes of instruction and gear setup at the marina, then one or two dives depending on your option, with water and snacks between dives and lunch included. Children from age 10 are welcome; the guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and two other languages.

The Experience

You arrive at the marina in Cozumel and meet your certified dive instructor, who walks you through the paperwork and helps you into the wetsuit and gear. For the first 45 minutes, you stay on land—the instructor explains the theory you'll need, shows you how to clear your mask underwater and how to signal if something feels wrong. This is not a classroom; it's a conversation between you and one person who has done this hundreds of times and will be right beside you the whole way down.

Once the boat reaches the reef, you gear up and enter the water. Your instructor stays with you as you descend to 40 feet, moving slowly enough that you can adjust to the pressure and the feeling of breathing underwater. The reef comes into focus—turtles glide past, eagle rays flap along the sand, schools of barracuda and toadfish move through the coral. The dive lasts 45 to 60 minutes. When you surface, the crew serves water and snacks while you catch your breath and talk through what you just saw.

If you book the two-tank option, you'll do a second dive after lunch. The first one teaches you the basics; the second one lets you move with more confidence and notice details you missed the first time. Either way, the day includes the park fees, all equipment, the instructor's attention, and a meal—the only thing you bring is a valid ID and a willingness to try something that feels impossible until you're already doing it.
