Scuba Diving in Cozumel: PADI Discover with 2 reef dives
Breathe underwater and dive two Cozumel reefs in one day
PADI Discover Scuba Diving in Cozumel is a beginner instruction and guided diving experience that starts with a theory session and pool practice, then moves to two boat dives on the reefs of Cozumel Marine Park. A professional guide leads the whole day, and all scuba equipment is provided. The program runs 8 hours and requires a minimum age of 10 (with a parent present); participants should have moderate physical fitness and cannot dive within 24 hours of flying.
The Experience
The day starts on land with a short theory session that covers the basics of breathing underwater and staying safe. You then move to the pool to practice fundamental skills—equalizing pressure, clearing your mask, controlling your buoyancy—in a controlled setting where the guide watches your comfort level before you ever leave the dock. Once you're ready, the boat takes you out to two separate dives on the reefs of Cozumel Marine Park, where you'll put those skills to work at a maximum depth of 40 feet.
A professional guide stays with you throughout both dives, pointing out the reef structure and marine life while keeping an eye on your air consumption and positioning. You're not watching from a boat; you're underwater with the equipment on, making the decisions about where to look and how to move. The guide handles the navigation and safety, so you can focus on the moment itself. All necessary scuba gear—wetsuit, tank, regulator, buoyancy control device, fins—comes with the program, so you don't need to own or rent equipment separately.
The 8-hour timeframe includes the theory and pool work, the boat ride out, both dives, and the surface interval between them. Marine park fees are USD 11 per person per day and are not included in the base price. Video footage of your dives can be purchased as an add-on if you want a record of the day. A health questionnaire is required before you dive, and some pre-existing medical conditions may disqualify you, so review the operator's medical policy beforehand.

What does the pool session teach before the ocean dives?
The pool session covers basic scuba skills like breathing through the regulator, equalizing ear pressure as you descend, clearing water from your mask, and controlling your buoyancy. You practice these fundamentals in shallow water with your guide watching before moving to the open water dives.
How deep do you go on the Cozumel reef dives?
The maximum depth for this PADI Discover program is 40 feet (12 meters). Both guided dives stay within this limit, and your guide controls the descent and ascent to keep you safe and comfortable.
Do I need to have dived before to do this?
No—this is a beginner program designed for people taking their first breath underwater. The theory session and pool practice prepare you, and the guide stays with you on both ocean dives. You must be at least 10 years old, and a parent or guardian must be present if you're under 18.
What's included in the 8-hour program?
The program includes the theory session, pool training, two guided boat dives, and all scuba equipment (wetsuit, tank, regulator, BCD, fins, mask, snorkel). The guide is included. Marine park fees (USD 11 per person per day) and lunch are separate.
Can I book this if I'm flying to Cozumel the same day?
Diving within 24 hours of flying is not recommended due to decompression sickness risk. If you're arriving by air, plan to dive the day after you land, or later in your trip.
Is transportation to the dive shop included?
Transfers to or within Cozumel are not included in the base price and can be added at checkout. The dive shop can arrange pickup from your hotel or the ferry terminal if you book that option.
