The Experience
I’ll admit, I stalled the buggy right outside the hotel — not my smoothest start. Our guide, Martín, just grinned and said, “Don’t worry, everyone does that.” The air smelled like salt and sunscreen as we set off through Cozumel’s streets. It was just us — no big group or walkie-talkie instructions — which felt weirdly freeing. The main keyword here is private buggy tour Cozumel, but honestly it just felt like borrowing someone’s cool car for the day.
First stop: Punta Sur Eco Beach Park. There’s this old lighthouse you can climb (Celarain), and if you’re not afraid of heights or slightly wobbly stairs, the view is…well, I still think about that endless blue. Martín pointed out crocodiles sunbathing near Laguna de Colombia — he called them “the real locals.” We heard birds I couldn’t name and watched tiny crabs skitter sideways across the sand. At El Mirador Lookout, the rocks made these hollow sounds when waves crashed underneath. I tried to take a photo but mostly just stood there blinking in the sun.
We drifted over to Playa San Martín after that — barely anyone around except a couple of fishermen fixing nets. The sand stuck to my feet in this soft way that reminded me of powdered sugar. Then came the tequila seminar (I learned there are way more types than I thought). I definitely butchered “Añejo” — Martín laughed and poured me another tiny glass anyway. There was chocolate too; it melted instantly on my tongue.
Lunch at Coco’s Beach Club was one of those slow moments where you forget your phone exists. Tacos tasted smoky and fresh; I could hear kids splashing in the pool behind us while palm leaves rattled overhead. We could’ve stayed all afternoon but eventually we had to roll back toward town — a little sunburned, a lot relaxed.
