The experience
You board a Jeep Wrangler or Jeep Patriot (maximum four guests per vehicle) and drive through Cozumel town to see local life, then head out on a scenic route to Punta Sur Eco Beach Park. A radio system in the Jeep keeps you connected to your guide throughout the drive. The route takes you to El Caracol, a Mayan weather alarm built between 1200 and 1400 A.D., and then to Columbia Lagoon where saltwater crocodiles rest in the sun. You climb the observation tower overlooking the lagoon before heading to the beach.
The bay here is protected from sea currents and stays shallow, which is why it's ideal for snorkeling. Your guide provides the equipment and stays nearby while you're in the water, ready to answer questions or help if you need it. You might see turtles, lobsters and tropical fish. If snorkeling isn't for you, a beach umbrella and shade are there to relax under instead. After the water, you visit the Navigation Museum inside the Punta Celarain lighthouse with the option to climb to the top, then drive to a beach resort for Mexican lunch: fajitas, rice, beans, chips, real tortillas and salsa. Beach chairs, a freshwater pool, showers and towels come with the meal.
