You drive the buggy and choose the stops; the snorkeling happens in Caribbean water clear enough to see the coral reef system.

A private buggy tour of Cozumel where you and your party ride in an open-top vehicle and choose which stops to visit from a list of recommendations—San Gervasio, Punta Sur Eco Park, Chankanaab, the East side beaches, or the island's center. The tour includes a guide, lunch at a beach club, snorkeling gear and instruction, and five hours to explore. Your guide adjusts the itinerary on the day based on what you want to do.

  • Visit Tequila ranch and learn history
  • Stop at Chen Rio virgin beach
  • Explore Playa San Martin beach
  • Visit El Mirador beach and lookout
  • Relax at beach club and eat lunch

The Experience

You meet your guide at a pickup point anywhere on the island and climb into an open-top buggy. From there, the day is yours to shape. The operator suggests San Gervasio (a Mayan site), Punta Sur Eco Park, Chankanaab, or the virgin beaches on Cozumel's East side—Chen Rio with its lagoon and rock formations, Playa San Martin where sea turtles nest, El Mirador with its lookout over the ocean and jungle. You can also ask for the Tequila ranch, the island's center for shopping, or add on horseback riding, jet ski or parasailing. Your guide knows the island and can help you build an itinerary that fits your group's pace and interests.

Lunch happens at a beach club where you order Mexican fajitas (chicken, beef or fish), and the snorkeling follows. Your guide sets you up with the equipment and shows you how to use it. The Caribbean water has outstanding visibility, and you'll see colorful tropical fish above the coral reef. You can snorkel as long as you want, then sit on a lounge chair, swim, or order drinks at the bar. The beach club has bathrooms, showers and changing rooms.

The tour runs five hours total. The guide speaks English or Spanish. Transport, gas, insurance, a cooler of water and soda, snorkeling gear, and lunch are included; entrance fees to attractions are not, and you arrange those separately if you choose to visit them. The buggy seats your whole party, so there's no splitting up or waiting for a group to assemble.

What’s included

  • The tour includes private transportation in an open-top buggy with gas and insurance.
  • a guide who speaks English or Spanish.
  • bottled water and soda in a cooler.
  • Mexican lunch at a beach club with a choice of chicken, beef or fish fajitas.
  • snorkeling equipment and instruction.
  • and five hours to explore the island and choose your stops.

Is this one for you?You drive the buggy yourself and pick the stops from your guide's suggestions, so the day moves at your pace and you see what interests your group—ideal if you want control over the route and don't want to follow a fixed itinerary with other travelers. If you prefer someone else to handle the driving and plan every stop, a guided group tour would suit you better.
