The experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel or meeting point in a van, car or jeep: normally a 20-minute drive to the ATV headquarters. Once there, you get goggles, a helmet and a scarf, then sit through a 10-minute safety briefing that covers the basics of operating the machine and staying safe on the trail.

You then follow your guide through the jungle for 45 minutes on the ATV, navigating to hidden Mayan ruins along the way. The ride takes you off the main roads into terrain where the ruins sit among the trees and rock formations. After the ride ends, you have access to a pool area to cool off before the return trip to your starting point.

The guide speaks English or Spanish, so you can follow the route and any commentary about what you're riding past. The whole outing (pickup, briefing, ride, pool time and drop-off) runs about two hours. Bottled water is provided, and all the safety gear stays with you for the duration.
