The Experience

I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure what “luxury” meant for a sail in Cabo San Lucas — but stepping barefoot onto that smooth deck with the sun already warming my shoulders, I got it. The crew greeted us like old friends (one guy, Jorge, even remembered someone’s birthday from last year). There was music playing, not too loud, just enough to make it feel like a real day off. We headed out past the marina and the water turned this wild blue-green color you don’t really see anywhere else.

Our guide pointed out Pelican’s Rock first — honestly, I thought it’d just be rocks and birds, but there were these pelicans diving for fish right next to us and frigatebirds circling above. When we anchored, the salt smell hit me hard (in a good way) and I could hear kids laughing over their snorkels. Slipping into the water was colder than I expected but after a second it felt perfect. There were so many fish — bright yellow ones darting around my feet — and one guy swore he saw a ray glide by. I don’t know if he was messing with us but everyone started looking harder after that.
