We passed Gorilla Mountain (it really does look like a gorilla if you squint), then cruised through Kilim Geoforest Park while Azmi pointed out limestone cliffs and told stories about storms from last year. He said dolphins sometimes follow the boats here; we didn’t see any but I kept glancing back just in case.

The last stretch was out on the Andaman Sea—open sky, wind picking up, islands scattered everywhere. For a minute it felt like we were very far from anywhere familiar.
