Step-by-step itinerary
Kilim Geoforest Park Mangrove Boat Tour
- Travel by boat through Kilim River mangroves
- Watch eagles feeding near the boat
- Explore darkened bat caves
- Visit floating fish farm and see stingrays
- Return to jetty and hotel drop-off
The Experience
The boat leaves the jetty and enters the mangrove maze where aerial roots tangle above the water and the guide explains how this ecosystem feeds the entire Andaman Sea. You'll see monkeys, birds and hornbills moving through the canopy, and the boatman will cut the engine at a specific point to throw chicken pieces into the water. Within seconds, giant white-colored sea eagles and reddish-brown flying eagles dive down beside the boat, clawing the food and rising back into the sky. This is not a feeding show staged elsewhere—it happens on the river itself, and the guide narrates what you're watching as it unfolds.
After the eagle stop, the boat heads into the Bat Cave, a darkened limestone chamber where thousands of bats roost. The guide walks you through the cave and explains the ecosystem that depends on them. You'll also visit the Crocodile Cave, another limestone formation carved into the cliffs. As you leave the mangroves, the landscape shifts: majestic limestone rock formations and sea stacks rise dramatically from the ocean, ancient coral thrust skyward millions of years ago and home to plants found nowhere else on earth.
The final stop is a floating modern fish farm in a secluded cove surrounded by high vertical cliffs. You'll have time to see stingrays and other sea creatures kept in tanks, and you can hand-feed the stingrays if you want. Lunch is included and served during the tour. The boat returns to the jetty, and your driver will drop you back at your hotel or port pickup. The whole outing takes about five hours from start to finish.

Can I hand-feed the stingrays at the fish farm, or is that just watching?
The floating fish farm visit includes the opportunity to hand-feed stingrays; the guide will show you how. You'll also see other sea creatures kept in the tanks during the stop.
What's the difference between the shared boat and the private boat options?
The shared boat runs on a fixed schedule with other travelers; the private boat is just your group. Private boats do not include lunch, so you'll want to eat before or after the tour if you choose that option.
Do I need to arrange my own transport to the boat, or is pickup included?
Hotel pickup is included in the shared boat options and one of the private boat options; you choose at checkout. If you select the private boat without pickup, you'll arrange your own transport to the jetty.
How often do you actually see the eagles when you feed them?
The guide stops at the eagle feeding point on every tour and throws chicken into the water to attract them. The eagles are accustomed to this stop and typically appear, though sightings depend on the day and conditions on the river.
Is this tour safe for young children or infants?
Infants can sit on an adult's lap or ride in a pram or stroller during the boat sections. The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels, though it is not recommended for pregnant travelers.
What language will the guide speak?
The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and five additional languages; you can request your preferred language when you book.
