The experience
The boat leaves Kilim jetty after hotel pickup and heads into the mangrove ecosystem along Sungai Kilim and Sungai Kisap. You stop first at Bat Cave, the habitat of Malaysian bats, then move through the mangrove ecology area to watch the natural inhabitants and marine life. The river narrows and winds, giving you close views of the forest's flora and fauna as the boat navigates the calm water.
Three stops break up the river section. At the floating fish farm you watch the farming of various fish species and marine life, with a stingray feeding show. Then comes eagle-watching, where you see the birds swoop around you. The boat takes you to the edge of the Kilim river for a view of the open Andaman Sea: a sudden shift from the enclosed forest to vast water. Cave exploration follows, with the boat passing inside during low tide to see the geological formations, or viewing from outside when the tide is high.
The tour ends at a private island where you can swim and relax on the beach before the return transfer to your hotel. The whole outing runs between three and five hours depending on tides and the group's pace.
